Hogle Zoo's female snow leopard is set to undergo surgery to have stones removed from her kidney and ureter.

Zoo officials say the endangered animal's surgery is set for Friday morning at Advanced Veterinary Care in Salt Lake City.

They say the leopard must undergo the procedure before the stones damage its kidney.

Because this procedure is new to veterinary medicine but routine with humans, the zoo says it has partnered with Dr. Blake Hamilton of the University of Utah's Department of Urology to perform the procedure.
